NURSE-Service Line Coordinator (SLC)

Details: Service Line Coordinator (SLC)  The JAG Group, Inc. is a national healthcare recruiting firm, specializing in the placement of permanent healthcare professionals across the country.  We have a great job opportunity with a great salary!    Population Served: Core competencies will be assessed primarily on the following patient population(s) served:  Pre and intraoperative interventions, including but not limited to Cardiovascular/Thoracic, Neuro, GI, GU, GYN, Orthopedics, Skeletal/Muscular conditions and diseases etc.  ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Service Line Coordinator: 1.      Demonstrates knowledge and application of the intra-operative nursing process for patients of all ages, and all surgical services as listed above. 2.       Monitors and recognizes changes in the patient's behavioral and physiological status, during pre-intra and post-operative phrases of the procedure; takes appropriate action based on assessment.3.      utilizes professional skills and judgment in delivering and/or delegating care for all surgical patients on his/her shifts. 4.      Provides leadership and direction to all disciplines assigned to the surgical health care team, including all ancillary staff, assigned to assist the surgical team. 5.      Maintains responsibility for the daily operation of the surgery department, and provides timely feedback to the Director. 6.      Demonstrates ability to manage surgery staff, physicians and equipment in an effective manner. 7.      Maintains responsibility for assessing and making necessary changes to the staff assignment and surgical schedule to facilitate the most effective, timely, staff utilization. 8.      Coordinates the preparation for the surgical cases; assuring that all supplies, instruments, and equipment are available to safely perform the surgical procedure. 9.      Maintains aseptic technique during surgical procedures by continuously monitoring surgical technique in the sterile field. 10.   Assists and evaluates the patient's positioning during procedures, assuring the proper padding and positioning devices are used correctly. 11.   Demonstrates ability to use all the equipment in the unit in a proficient and safe manner. 12.   Maintains responsibility for following Surgical Services Policies and procedures and in accordance with established policies and procedures of the company. 13.   Maintains responsibility for meeting and maintaining AORN and JCAHO standards. 14.   Demonstrates effective communication skills when interacting with physicians, patients, staff, and ancillary personnel. 15.   Maintains responsibility for assisting OR Director with surgical staff process activities, including orientation, and professional development. 16.   Responsible for conducting morning report at least once a week to update surgery staff of relevant happenings 17.   Assist with other duties as assigned within scope and practice of licensure. 18.   Provides continuity of care for all procedures in their entirety. 19.   Collaborates with EMI and Surgical Techs on all inventory, supplies and equipment for the company. 20.   Responsible in keeping the Service Line Manger and Team informed on any changes or problems regarding the company’s system. 21.   Responsible for the training and education for all employees 22.   Responsible for collaborating with the Marketing Dept. for promoting.    Service Line Coordinator (SLC) PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES: 1.    Individual Leadership: Demonstrates confidence in own skills, knowledge and ability. Identifies and pursues opportunities for personal growth and demonstrates ability to accept and adapt change. 2.    Customer Service: Demonstrates customer service skills with both internal and external customers. 3.    Transcultural Sensitivity: Treats patients/customers as individuals with unique values, beliefs, and practices. 4.    Risk Management/Patient/Customer Safety: Demonstrates patient/customer safety according to policies and procedures. 5.    Educator: Identifies, implements, and/or evaluates opportunities for patient/family education. 6.    Infection Control: Demonstrates infection control practices congruent with policies and procedures. 7.    Performance Improvement: Performs, participates, implements and evaluates performance improvement activities at the department level. 8.    Financial Accountability: Identifies opportunities for waste reduction and improving department efficiency. 9.    Information Management: Demonstrates adherence to information management policies and procedures, maintaining confidentiality at all times. 10.  Communication: Works as a team member through interaction, assistance and demonstration of appropriate communication skills and reporting/activation of the chain of command appropriately. 11.  Practices Professionalism: Performs, participates, implements and evaluates personal performance. 12.  Ethics/Compliance: Performs all duties ethically, complying with all policies and procedures, federal, state, and local laws. 13.  Environment of care: Demonstrates accountability in role and responsibilities of the 7 Environment of Care plans.   Job Specific:  1.     Motivates and directs nurses, techs, operating room assistants (ORAs), and equipment, materials, and instruments (EMI) coordinator. 2.     Make room assignments appropriate to the skill level of team members 3.     Develops and implements action plans to improve staff developments 4.     Manages, plans, and monitors day-to-day clinical operations 5.     Develops and maintains preference cards. 6.     Collaborates with specialty team members to ensure all necessary equipment and supplies are available for their cases. 7.     Monitors room turnover and case setup. 8.     Provides direct patient care as needed. 9.     Works with EMI coordinator and perioperative educator to orient new staff. 10.  Evaluates new procedures/products. 11.  Supports efforts to control costs through conservation of supplies and care of equipment. 12.  Responsible for initiating RNs when appropriate for specialty service. 13.  Identifies and coordinates the needs of physicians through scheduled meetings. 14.  Attends section meetings periodically to increase knowledge and skills for that specialty. 15.  Collaborates with service group manager in hiring, evaluating, and counseling personnel. 16.  Informs service group manager of activities and issues. 17.  Provides service group manager with information for the development of the annual budget. 18.  Reviews and prioritizes capital needs. 19.  Identifies non-capital equipment and supply needs. 20.  Participates in hospital safety programs. 21.  Supports and enforces infection-control policies and procedures. 22.  Maintains a professional approach with confidentiality. 23.  Communicates effectively with the medical staff, nursing staff, and interdepartmental staff 24.  Provides illness and vacation backup for the service group manager.
