Scope of services includes cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological and diabetic complications as well as high-risk surgical patients and obstetrical patients who would benefit from comprehensive nursing care. Our average 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio provides RNs the opportunity to care for the patient while addressing family concerns. All RNs are ACLS-certified, with many nurses also holding Trauma Nursing and Pediatric certifications.We require current RN licensure and BLS certification upon applying to this unit. Visiting hours are open for all immediate family members. Dependent on the patient's condition, one family member is welcome to stay with the patient during the night. This unit's 24-hour availability enables family members to use our direct line to inquire about concerns that may arise. Twelve-hour shifts are available.Our Shared Leadership Council has been very successful in developing changes to education and practice issues in the department. We are committed to the success of our peers and the care provided to our patients. There are many changes expected in our future one of which is a transition to a laptop cart for documentation and medication administration via electronic medication administration record (e-MAR). The unit provides a set schedule that repeats every six weeks. The nursing personnel work 12-hour shifts and work every third weekend. There are ancillary staffs of Unit Secretary and Certified Nursing Assistances. Position Description:The Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process to direct and deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients on an assigned unit in a safe and proficient manner according to individual patient needs. Provides direct patient care based upon Georgetown Hospital Standards of Care and Standards of Practice, Polices, Procedures and Practice Guidelines. Provides guidance and supervision to Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN), Nursing Technicians, Nursing Assistants and Unit Secretaries. He/she acts as patient and advocate with the Hospital environment. Assumes Charge Nurse responsibilities and accepts assignments on other units when necessary.Possess the comprehensive nursing skills to perform triage assessment that shall include rapid systematic collection of data related to the patients chief complaint.Completes and thorough triage assessment is performed and documented using the Nursing process at the time of presentation, based on accepted Emergency Nursing standards, on patient condition and Hospital policy.Differentiates severity of patient problems and prioritizes care, designating an appropriate acuity level.Facilitates the flow of patients through the emergency care system ensuring timely evaluation according to the health care needs of the patients.Demonstrates knowledge and skills in the care of all aspects of medical and traumatic emergencies.
